An overview of GaN-related materials and devices and work on power LED chips at ASTRI

Abstract GaN is said to be the next semiconductor after silicon. Major applications include blu-ray DVDs, solid-state lighting, mobile phone, LCD TVs and notebook computers with LED backlight unit, automotives, infrastructure of wireless communications systems (base stations), etc. Many companies and almost all top universities have research programs on GaN. In this talk, the speaker will give an overview of GaN-related materials and devices, including material properties, processing, and devices. He will also introduce the work on LEDs, particularly on power GaN LEDs chips at ASTRI.
